Pacific Harbor Seals Observation Locations - Other Prime Observation Areas

Pacific harbor seals live in a variety of habitats spread across the Central Oregon Coast with some of their haul-out sites hidden or difficult to reach for observation including such notable areas as Cascade Head and Big Whale Cove. Other locations offer better opportunities for observing them in their own natural surroundings. In Tillamook County, the exposed mud flats and sandy shorelines contained within the Netarts Bay Estuary creates an ideal setting for the harbor seals to rest and feed. At the south end of Lincoln City near the Taft Neighborhood Area, a group of harbor seals frequent the northern tip of the Salishan Spit Area hanging around their feeding grounds at the mouth of the Siletz Bay Estuary. At the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area in Newport, several offshore rock islets provide shelter for the harbor seals where they reside for the entire year including raising their pups in springtime. Finally, the Alsea Bay Estuary supports a sizeable group of harbor seals easily seen from several city parks found in the Waldport Community Area.
