Pacific Harbor Seals - Specially Adapted Body Attributes

Pacific harbor seals display attributes well-adapted for living in their underwater habitats from which their food supply resides. They possess a spotted and speckled fur pattern in wide variations of colors ranging from black to silvery gray to almost pure white. The head of the harbor seal is rounded in shape in addition to having a blunt stout and no external ear flaps. The Pacific harbor seal has a set of whiskers utilized underwater for locating its prey and sensing other unusual shapes, especially useful when diving in poor lighting conditions. The eye sight of harbor seals is geared towards seeing underwater, even in dark and murky water conditions plus having a keen sense of hearing when underwater. Pacific harbor seals have front teeth, sharp and pointed used for tearing apart their food plus their back teeth are utilized for crushing shells and crustaceans. While Pacific harbor seals keep to a safe distance from humans, there are a few places where they can be observed closer revealing their specially adapted body features for living on the coast.
