Ospreys like to build their nests out in the open providing the adults with quicker access out to their hunting grounds plus protecting their nest sites from intruders. Two noteworthy osprey nest sites found along the Central Oregon Coast include one site established along the Siletz River and the other one built farther south in the South Beach Community Area. The nest site found along the Siletz River is set at the top of a utility service pole near the Community of Kernville, within close proximity to the abundant waters of the Siletz Bay Estuary and River System. The second site is located at the South Beach State Park in a tree snag situated within the park grounds. Both of these sites offer the opportunity to observe their parenting behaviors around the nest including the nest building and repair activities completed by both adults. When the chicks arrive, the nest site becomes filled with other activities as the male osprey returns to the nest with small fishes for feeding the entire family. As the chicks grow towards fledging, they become more visible within the nest site stretching out their wings preparing for future flight and their own independence.
