Gray Whales - Whale Watching Activities on the Oregon Coast

Whale Watching Activities abound on the Oregon Coast, whether from the deck of a charter boat or from the immediate shoreline, the opportunity to find whales is ever present for almost ten months of the year. The Cities of Depoe Bay and Newport each possess a harbor area available to the general public for purchasing wildlife viewing excursions out to the open ocean for observing gray whales in their natural setting. While the boats must remain at a distance for whale safety, sometimes the gray whales will come closer to the boats for an inquisitive pass by. From the shoreline, the wildlife explorer might encounter a special moment when the gray whales move closer to the coastline. The City of Depoe Bay is known as the Whale Watching Capital of the World and offers several remarkable park locations for whale watching activities from the shoreline. In addition, whale watching can be enjoyed from one’s own property overlooking the ocean or from the ocean-facing lodging properties available in the region affording nice vantage points of the open sea.
