Oregon Coast Tide Pool Locations - Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area

The promontory of Yaquina Head extends almost two miles out into the ocean and is the park site for the Bureau of Land Management’s Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. At the western end of Yaquina Head stands the historic Yaquina Head Lighthouse, a key attraction drawing visitors to the park. Also, the park is known for its wide assortment of coastal wildlife residing within its boundaries and includes two outstanding tide pool areas available to the public. The first set of tide pools is found at Cobble Beach, a beach strand composed of ancient volcanic black cobbles with its marine gardens located just offshore from the shoreline of the beach. The Cobble Beach Area features a nice multi-tiered deck area for observing the local wildlife gathered around the rocky islets offshore plus provides stairway access leading down to Cobble Beach and its nearby marine gardens. The second tide pool area is known as the Quarry Cove Tide Pools, situated on the south end of the park. The area is a former quarry site converted to an intertidal zone offering barrier free access to the naturally inhabited tide pools for all of the park’s visitors to enjoy.
