Heceta Head Lighthouse - Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast

Upon entering the park, the visitor is awakened by the awe-inspiring views of Heceta Head including the picturesque dwelling perched on top of the ocean bluff, now known as the Heceta Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast. This property is part of the U.S. Forest Service and operates as a Bed and Breakfast Inn offering visitors spending the night with a rare experience set within the vicinity of the most powerful lighthouse operating on the Oregon Coast. The dwelling has been restored wonderfully to its original form and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in November of 1978. The dwelling is the only structure remaining from the original residences built in the 1890s. The dwelling was designed as a duplex for housing the First Assistant and the Second Assistant stationed at the Heceta Head Lighthouse Reservation. Unfortunately, the keeper’s dwelling located to the west of this dwelling was torn down in the early 1940s for $10 and its materials were hauled off for a building erected in the Mapleton Area. The original lighthouse grounds included a barn and other areas set aside for the grazing of sheep and livestock, a vegetable garden, an outhouse and cisterns for storing water. The Heceta Head setting, whether imagined back in the 1890s or visited today, still embodies a magical feeling based on the incredible scenery afforded from such a remote and rugged place.
