Heceta Head Lighthouse - Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint

The Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint is accessible off the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway in between the areas of Cape Perpetua to the north, and the City of Florence to the south. This stretch of the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway offers alluring views of the meandering coastline and the surrounding seascapes of sandy beaches, craggy offshore islands and rugged sea stacks popping up out of the ocean waters. The park is located to the north of the Cape Creek Bridge, another historical bridge designed by famous Bridge Architect, Conde B. McCullough. The bridge was completed in 1932 as part of the Roosevelt Military Highway (later known as the Oregon Coast Highway) and its completion marked the opening of an era where travel through the Heceta Head Area became much easier. The community surrounding Heceta Head now was able to gain swifter passage to the Florence Area and the highway allowed a greater number of travelers to visit the Heceta Head Area. The Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint is administered as part of the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department System while the Heceta Head Lighthouse is still under the purview of the U.S. Coast Guard Service. The park features a variety of amenities including public parking areas, several sets of picnic tables, the Devils Elbow Beach and a nature trail leading up to the Heceta Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast, the Lighthouse Interpretive Store and the lighthouse itself.
