Yaquina Bay Lighthouse - Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site
At the Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site, the park facility offers several nice amenities for enjoying the outdoors including a sheltered picnic area with covered tables and a lawn. The park has two designated beach access points located on its western side providing trails leading down to the southern end of Nye Beach. Beachgoers can head out to the north jetty and enjoy panoramic views of the ocean plus views of the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse sitting on top of the coastal bluff. For those inclined, beachgoers can traverse on this same beach northward for almost four miles and end up at the rocky cliffs of Yaquina Head and enjoy vistas of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse standing guard at the promontory along the way. The south end of the park overlooks the jetties and the boat activity coming in and out of the channel. Also, there are several nice viewpoints of the Yaquina Bay Bridge, one of the most photographed bridges built on the coastal highway system and designed by famed Bridge Architect Conde B. McCullough. The Jetty Overlook Platform offers views of the jetty and the bridge plus scenic views of the South Beach Area located on the south side of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. The overlook has several interpretive displays concerning the bridge, the jetty system and on the sand build-up accumulating around the jetties. The park has a sheltered educational kiosk featuring interpretive information on the jetty construction at Yaquina Bay, the short history of the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and the storm warning descriptions used by the U.S. Coast Guard.
