The South Aerial Guide Overview Tour Three starts at the northern end of the Community of Yachats where the beautiful stretches of sandy shorelines continue southward from the beach areas of South Waldport. These sandy shorelines provide the fabulous setting for most of the neighborhood areas developed in the northern end of the Yachats Community around the Beach Strands of Tillicum Beach and Sandy Beach. These sandy shorelines abruptly change over to miles of ancient basalt coastlines fronting the City of Yachats. Known as the Gem of the Oregon Coast, this coastal community is the southernmost city situated within Lincoln County and offers an incredible seaside experience surrounded by the ocean and the coastal evergreen forests of the Siuslaw National Forest. The tour covers the fascinating aspects of the Yachats Community including the wonderful Oregon State Parks established in the area showcased by the Yachats 804 Trail System.
The section of the Pacific Coast Scenic Byway built from the City of Yachats extending southward to Sea Lion Point affords the traveler with one of the most picturesque scenic drives found in America. Tour Three captures the magnificent imagery of this drive starting at the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, a 2700-acre coastal wonderland contained within the Siuslaw National Forest where old-growth forests meet the tidewaters of the ocean. The tour continues southward along the northern reaches of the Lane County Coastline sharing information about the many park and campground areas established along its coastal route providing the traveler with breath-taking scenery and access to pristine shorelines teeming with colorful tide pools and other local wildlife. The tour concludes at the stunning coastline setting of Heceta Head, home to the immensely popular Heceta Head Lighthouse, and the Sea Lion Caves located to the south of the headland.
