The South Aerial Guide Overview Tour One starts at Otter Rock, a small coastal town located in Lincoln County. At the Otter Rock Area, the ancient rock formations of basalt and sandstone change over to broad expanses of sandy shorelines leading into the City of Newport and the Community of South Beach. Highway 101 continues to traverse north and south along the coast, affording spectators with fantastic vistas of the Oregon Coast highlighted by several picturesque beach strands, two lighthouses and the historic Yaquina Bay Highway 101 Bridge. The tour covers the north end of the Newport Area highlighted by the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area as well as reviewing several popular beach areas including Beverly Beach, Moolack Beach and Agate Beach. From Yaquina Head, the tour heads southward along the combined beach strands of Agate Beach and Nye Beach, eventually meeting up with the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and the Yaquina Bay Jetty System. The tour moves inward along the Yaquina Bay and showcases Newports historic Bayfront District and then continues on up the Yaquina River, further reviewing the inland communities of the City of Toledo and the City of Siletz.
Heading back to the City of Newport, the tour covers Newports Highway 101 Shopping Corridor and City Center Downtown Areas in addition to the Yaquina Bay Highway 101 Bridge, designed by famed bridge architect Conde B. McCullough. The Yaquina Bay Highway 101 Bridge connects with the Community of South Beach, most noted for the home of the Port of Newports South Beach Marina Complex, the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center-Oregon State University. The tour reviews the South Beach State Park Areas and presents several residential developments located within the South Beach Community. These featured developments include the following: South Shore, Surfland, Pacific Shores, Lost Creek, and Makai. The tour concludes at the Ona Beach State Park, located at the border of the Communities of South Beach and Seal Rock. Key Points of Interest captured in this tour include Gull Rock, Otter Rock, Yaquina Head, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Yaquina Bay, Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, Yaquina Bay Jetty System, Yaquina River, Siletz River, Yaquina Bay Highway 101 Bridge, Beaver Creek and Ona Beach State Park.
