The Agate Beach Community Area - The Historic Nye Beach Community Area

The Agate Beach Community Area features many residential neighborhoods built on the surrounding bluffs overlooking the beach strand of Agate Beach. The Agate Beach Community Area is well-liked for its proximity to the ocean shores of Agate Beach as well as its superb location situated near a wide assortment of city and merchant services found along the business corridor of Highway 101 within the City of Newport. The south end of the Agate Beach Community Area blends into north end of the Nye Beach Community Area, near the famous Jump-off Joe Area. In the late 1800s, the Jump-off Joe rock formation was a popular landmark and the termination point for the old beach road. The forces of nature have worn away at the rock formation over many years creating a mere remnant of its former glory and now the beach sands of Agate Beach and Nye Beach have become one contiguous body. The Nye Beach Community Area portrays today a fantastic sense of beach character, still drawing from its historic roots as Newport’s first resort area.
