Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park - The Headland of Heceta Head

The Big Creek Bridge is another bridge built in 1931 under the purview of Conde B. McCullough incorporating the same bridge design as used in the Tenmile Creek Bridge located in Northern Lane County. Also, the Big Creek Area is an important coastal habitat area supporting many local wildlife species. Located south of the bridge is an Oregon State Park known as the Muriel O. Ponsler Memorial State Scenic Viewpoint found near Roosevelt Beach. The Day Use Park offers picnic grounds and access to the lengthy beach strand surrounding the mouth of China Creek. Just south of this park is the Oregon State Park Facility known as the Carl G. Washburne Memorial State Park located to the north of Heceta Head. The park includes the Washburne Campground located on the east side of Highway 101 plus a Day Use Location sited on the west side of the highway. The Day Use Park offers public restrooms, picnic tables placed within the shore pines, access to the beach strand of Washburne Beach, and connections to the nature trail system leading throughout the State Park and southward towards the Headland of Heceta Head.
