The City of Depoe Bay - The Downtown Shopping Corridor and Seawall Areas |
|||||||||||||
| The hub of life found within the City of Depoe Bay is centered in its main downtown retail shopping corridor. This area serves as the citys main shopping district and attracts daily visitors enjoying the coastal amenities of dining on local seafood, taking part in whale watching or deep sea fishing charter boat excursions, snacking on salt water taffy or shopping along the coastal gift stores/art galleries. Highway 101 runs directly through the downtown area and features visitor parking organized along the roadway. The downtown area is famous for its seawall area running along the ocean cliffs offering spectators incredible vantage points of the breaking surf, the powerful water action being propelled skyward from the Spouting Horn Blowhole, and the boating activity moving around the bay. Also, the Depoe Bay Seawall Area is a wonderful place to enjoy sunrises and sunsets. The seawall area includes several memorials honoring local fishermen and heroes who have lost their lives at sea and serves as the primary vantage point for observing the Fleet of Flowers Memorial Ceremony held on every Memorial Day Weekend. Located along the seawall area is the Whale Watch Center, a recent addition to the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. The center is the main office for the program known as Whale Watch Spoken Here and features an information center with interpretive displays concerning marine mammals plus indoor wildlife viewing stations. While the Depoe Bay Area attracts many visitors to its seaside amenities, the residential housing options available within the city are a major draw as well due to its close proximity to the ocean. Most of the citys residential developments face towards the ocean offering the opportunity to enjoy the finer points of coastal living and the majestic beauty of the Pacific Northwest. |
