The Salishan Spit Area - The Communities of Salishan and Gleneden Beach

The Salishan Spit Area forms the distinctive western edge of the Siletz Bay Estuary creating a separation point from the oncoming surf of the ocean and the estuarine waters of the bay. This pristine beach strand starts at the mouth opening of the Siletz Bay, then extends southward past the Community of Gleneden Beach, eventually ending at the rocky cliffs of Fishing Rock, a rocky headland found within the Lincoln Beach Area of Lincoln County Oregon. The tip of the Salishan Spit is an undeveloped area and serves as a protective haul-out location for seals and sea lions frequenting the area. Further south on the spit, the emergence of residential houses begins within the planned development known as the Salishan Residential Community or commonly referred to as the Salishan Leasehold based on its leasehold form of property ownership. The home sites located at the north end of the development feature picturesque views of the white water surf in addition to scenic vistas of the Siletz Bay. A parking lot is available at the north end of the development serving residents of the Salishan Community and guests staying at the Salishan Lodge and Spa Resort. The parking area offers an excellent spot for accessing the sand dune formations in the undeveloped section of the spit as well as exploring the many driftwood formations settling onto the inner banks of the bay. A significant portion of the Salishan Residential Community overlooks the beach strand of the Salishan Spit and the Siletz Bay, making this a popular attraction for living within this community. Also, the abundant wildlife making use of the Siletz Bay Estuary is another valuable aspect of the community. The community offers incredible birdwatching with the opportunity to observe Birds of Prey, estuarine dependent Shorebirds and Wading Birds and other migratory species that visit this habitat area on a seasonal basis.
