The Siletz Bay Estuary - The Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge

Drift Creek is one of the coastal creeks found within the Lincoln City Area that flows from inland coastal mountains, and in the end exits out into the Siletz Bay Estuary System near the south side of the Cutler City Area. The Inland Community of Drift Creek is located east of Highway 101 and features small farms and ranches with rural acreage set along the course of the creek. Heading southward from the Drift Creek Area, Highway 101 meets the waters of the Siletz River near the Community of Kernville. The Kernville Community Area draws its history to the early pioneer days of Lincoln County and the Siletz River where a canning factory and river barge operations were present. Today, Kernville is a small residential area overlooking the Siletz River near its entrance into the Siletz Bay Estuary System. On the south side of the Kernville Bridge is the planned residential development known as the Siletz Keys. The Siletz Keys Development features home sites overlooking the Siletz River and many of the properties have built small boat docks for gaining access to the river for kayaking and river fishing activities. The Siletz River is an important source of freshwater feeding the estuarine habitat of the Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge. The Siletz Bay Estuary is a federally protected area supporting many unique animals and plants thriving together amidst the continual changes of sunlight, wind, water inflows, tidal changes, seasonal weather changes and the effects of the moon and its lunar orbit.
