Cascade Head Attractions - Salmon River Estuary

The Cascade Head Area includes several attractions for visitors to enjoy when visiting this area. The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology offers educational opportunities for learning more about the area’s spectacular natural science surroundings, along with promoting various forms of art. The county park in the area provides a place for starting the Cascade Head Hiking Trail or providing kayak access for exploring the Salmon River Estuary and Spit. The Salmon River Estuary is part of the Cascade Head Scenic Area and is located on the southern end of the area. The Salmon River flows west from the coastal mountain range and meets the Pacific Ocean creating this estuary ecosystem and its bar built spit area. The Salmon River Estuary is estimated at 437 acres in area, along with an approximate watershed area of 75 square miles. The area supports a diverse habitat of wildlife species that make up this natural estuary environment, and offers outdoor enthusiasts with access to enjoying the natural wonders of this pristine setting.
