Yachats Ocean Road Scenic Driving Loop - The Community Areas of South Yachats

The Yachats Ocean Road State Natural Site features a scenic driving loop designed along the oceanfront of the South Yachats Coastline as well as connecting to Highway 101 in two places. Along the course of the loop are a variety of access points available for reaching the shoreline teeming with colorful tide pool areas and other local wildlife thriving along the tidal seas. During the right conditions, whale watching can be a fun activity found along the loop or taking in the water show when active spouting horns are hurling geysers of salt water spray into the air. The neighborhoods developed within the South Yachats Area capture these same coastal wonders found along this ever-changing oceanfront as well as the beautiful stands of evergreen forests covering the coastal mountains contained within the Siuslaw National Forest. Just south of the city limits is a tiny oceanfront neighborhood located near North Cape Creek featuring the Cleft of the Rock Lighthouse, a privately owned lighthouse providing navigational aid to mariners with a light beam visible 16 miles out to sea. Leaving the Yachats Area, the traveler heading south is quickly rewarded by entering the coastal wonderland found at the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area.
