The Smelt Sands State Recreation Site - Yachats City Neighborhood Areas
The Smelt Sands State Recreation Site is an Oregon State Park located within the City of Yachats on the west side of Highway 101. The park offers public restroom facilities and picnic areas plus a wheel chair accessible path leading to the Yachats 804 Trail System. The beach area fronting the park is known for its annual Smelt runs where the silvery fish come ashore to spawn. Every year the Yachats Community celebrates the tradition of Smelt Fishing with its annual Smelt Fry Event. The Development of Overleaf Village is a residential subdivision located north of the park offering beach cottages finished with a Pacific Northwest motif. The City of Yachats includes several other residential areas capturing the incredible beauty of the area including one neighborhood area situated between Highway 101 and Ocean View Drive, the road traversing along the oceanfront. Also popular is the Community Area of Horizon Hill, a neighborhood built on Horizon Hill featuring awesome vantage points of the ocean and the sun setting in the western sky.
