Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint

While the Heceta Head Lighthouse is the most popular attraction when visiting the Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, this Oregon State Park also offers many other daytime activities adding to the enjoyment of spending time in the area. The weathered cliffs and offshore islets provide secluded safety to various nesting seabirds and other animals living along the tidal seas. Several viewpoints are available for observing the wildlife along the cliffs and islets including the fenced area sited near the lighthouse as well as the Heceta Churn Lookout. The Heceta Churn is a crack formed in the basalt coastline creating exciting wave action during heavy surf conditions. The park provides nice areas for picnicking overlooking the oncoming surf plus access to the Devil’s Elbow Beach Area. Also, the park offers the chance to explore the arch structure of the Cape Creek Bridge, a coastal bridge designed by Conde B. McCullough in 1932 plus the mouth of Cape Creek.
