The USFS Ocean Beach Picnic Area - The Beach Strand of Roosevelt Beach

The beach strand located in front of the USFS Ocean Beach Picnic Area offers the beach visitor heading northward with a special coastal experience of enjoying miles of pristine pocket beaches surrounded by cliff-rimmed ocean bluffs and verdant hillsides of wind-swept pines. Heading southward on the beach is the mound shape of Rocky Knoll, a volcanic rock formation protruding out into the ocean waters in a knob-like appearance. Highway 101 traverses past Rocky Knoll and quickly encounters the turnout for the USFS Rock Creek Campground on the south side of the knoll. This road heads inland meeting up with the USFS Rock Creek Campground, a campground managed by the U.S. Forest Service Department as part of the Siuslaw National Forest. The campground is set along the running waters of Rock Creek offering15 camp sites on a seasonal basis from May to September. The campground facility provides piped drinking water, flush toilets in addition to each of the 15 camp sites possessing a table and grill for use by the camper. The campground is well-liked for its limited size and the natural beauty of the area featuring ferns, native shrubs, and coastal forests. The course of Rock Creek heads west under Highway 101 and drains out onto the Beach Strand of Roosevelt Beach. The Beach Strand of Roosevelt Beach starts from the Rocky Knoll Headland extending southward for a few miles to the vicinity of the Big Creek Estuary affording the beach traveler with a rare opportunity to explore one of the least populated areas available on the Oregon Coast.
