Captain Cook Point - Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint

From the Highway 101 Bridge at Cook’s Chasm, the southward course of Highway 101 travels around Captain Cook Point, a scenic point covered with lush stands of old-growth forests, and then passes over the county line into Lane County. Just south of Captain Cook Point is the Neptune State Scenic Viewpoint, an Oregon State Park spread across several locations offering outdoor picnicking plus shoreline access to interesting pocket beaches and colorful tide pools. The North Access Location of the park is set near the exit point where Gwynn Creek enters the ocean and includes a picnic area with picturesque views of Captain Cook Point. The second park location is situated on the south side of the historic Cummins Creek Bridge providing public restrooms and access to the beach area found near Cummins Creek. The Cummins Creek Bridge was built in 1931 by Conde B. McCullough as part of the Oregon Coast Highway System. Also built near the park are the hiking trailheads for connecting to the Gwynn Creek Trail and the Cummins Creek Trail.
