The Community of Yachats
The Community of Yachats is the southernmost coastal community located within Lincoln County and is commonly referred to as the Gem of the Oregon Coast. The Yachats Area is widely admired for its spectacular natural beauty featuring both fabulous stretches of sandy beaches as well as remarkable sections of rugged basalt coastlines. The north end of the Yachats Community starts generally at the Highway 101 Bridge built over the waters of the Big Creek Estuary, a small creek system draining out into the ocean. The north section of the Yachats Community includes several beach strands known as Tillicum Beach and Sandy Beach. These beach areas connect to the beach strands found in the South Waldport Area creating a contiguous stretch of sandy shorelines extending for many miles over a relatively flat slope elevation. The Beach Strand of Sandy Beach connects to the north pathway access of the Yachats 804 Trail System, a fantastic nature trail system traveling along the oceanfront of the Yachats Area. The rugged coastlines making up the Yachats Area feature a combination of rocky basalt formations, pocket beaches and marine gardens, and spouting horns shooting water geysers in the air. The Yachats River is another water setting situated within the community draining westward out into the Yachats Bay creating a nice beach area at the exiting mouth of the river. Traveling inland along the course of the Yachats River is the Yachats River Road, a scenic drive capturing the gorgeous beauty of the Yachats River Valley. Also, the course of the Yachats River Road leads to the Yachats Covered Bridge, a historic bridge located on the North Fork of the Yachats River. South of the river is the Yachats Ocean Road State Natural Site, an Oregon State Park Area established along the rocky shorelines of Yachats Bay. From the Yachats Area, Highway 101 leads southward towards the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area.
