South Aerial Guide Overview - Tour One
The Community of South Beach

Similar to the City of Newport, the Community of South Beach draws its heritage from the pioneer development of the Yaquina Bay Region during the 1800s as business commerce started around the Yaquina Bay including the spawning of the local seafood and timber industries. A ferry service between the City of Newport and South Beach fostered a period of economic growth as the Yaquina Bay became an important shipping port region and visitors to the area became aware of the amenities of the South Beach Area. The construction of the Roosevelt Military Highway and the Yaquina Bay Bridge in the 1920s played an important role further in the growth of the South Beach Area. Today, the South Beach Community is another thriving Oregon Coast Area stretching from the Yaquina Bay on the north end down to Ona Beach and Seal Rock on the south end. The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway continues on from the landing at the Yaquina Bay Bridge and heads south towards Seal Rock offering a variety of commercial developments found along the Highway 101 Corridor. The residential choices in South Beach feature planned unit developments including Southshore, Surfland, Pacific Shores, Lost Creek and Makai. Other residential neighborhood areas available include South Beach, Idaho Point and For Far. Also, the South Beach Area is home to the Newport Municipal Airport offering non-commercial aircraft facilities plus charter flight services serving the Lincoln County Area.
