The City of Siletz - Siletz River

The City of Siletz is located approximately eight miles northeast of the City of Newport and features one of Lincoln County’s main river systems known as the Siletz River. The Siletz River winds its way through the City of Siletz and heads northwest towards the ocean eventually draining out at the Siletz Bay and Estuary System near the Gleneden Beach and Salishan Area. The Siletz River Highway 229 runs from the City of Siletz and tracks along the Siletz River and connects to Highway 101 near Kernville. The scenery along the highway showcases rural farms and ranches set against rolling hills of evergreen trees and various viewpoints of the Siletz River as it makes it way to the coast. The City of Siletz draws its roots to the Siletz Indian Reservation formed in the 1800s during the start of the European-American Settlement of Lincoln County. Today, the City of Siletz is the tribal headquarters location for the Confederated Tribes of Siletz, a federally recognized confederation of 27 bands, originating from Northern California to Southern Washington. The Confederated Tribes of Siletz is a self-governing body managing a 3,666-acre sized reservation in Lincoln County and plays an instrumental role in supporting the Siletz Community. The Siletz Area features a variety of rural based settings encompassing farms and livestock ranches, riverfront property along the Siletz River, residential country home sites with acreage, and many wooded areas thriving with evergreen and alder trees.
