The City of Newport - Agate Beach Area
South of Yaquina Head, the beach sands accumulate forming Agate Beach stretching several miles long to the south, eventually combining with the beach strand of Nye Beach. The Lucky Gap Trail Area offers public parking near Highway 101 and toilet facilities plus a paved trail that leads down to the beach sands of Agate Beach. This beach access spot is well liked for its views of Yaquina Head and is also a popular surfing location. Traveling south on Highway 101 is the Agate Beach Golf Course, a public golf course on the east side featuring a nine-hole layout overlooking the Agate Beach Area. The facility offers many amenities including a pro shop with equipment and golf cart rentals, a coffee shop, a practice area and driving range, and individual lessons available from teaching professionals. The course is built on a relatively flat rolling terrain and is men’s rated at a distance of 3,002 yards with a par of 36, and the ladies’ rated at a distance of 2,894 yards for a par of 38. The Agate Beach Area includes a variety of choices for residential living. A section of small streets line the ocean bluffs overlooking the beach providing ocean views on the west side of the highway. Just south of the golf course, there are several developments located on the east side including the Little Creek Apartments Complex and the gated adult (55 and over) community of the Pacific Homes Beach Club.
