Proposal Rock - Neskowin Creek
While the Neskowin Area showcases the fine qualities of living along the beach, the community also contains residential properties located east of Highway 101, and positioned within the surrounding coastal hills. These community areas often feature panoramic views of the verdant hillsides lined with evergreen trees and the white water surf coming ashore off in the distance. One of these areas is the Hawk Creek Hills, a residential development set in the hills overlooking the former nine-hole golf course known as the Hawk Creek Golf Course. The golf course is now closed pending future residential development plans. Proposal Rock is the main landmark in Neskowin and today, serves as a focal point for many homes and condominiums located in the area. The pioneers named the rock formation for a couple that were engaged on top of the rock. Neskowin is part of the Nestucca-Neskowin Watershed Area and features several wetland areas and creeks. Two creeks that enter the Neskowin Beach/Proposal Rock area are Hawk Creek and Neskowin Creek. The two creeks meet into each other and flow into the ocean around Proposal Rock, and also help shape the local contour of Neskowin Beach.
