City of Depoe Bay - Depoe Bay Harbor Area

Besides the connection with the Pacific Ocean, the City of Depoe Bay is known for its quaint harbor area, carrying the distinction as being the World’s Smallest Navigable Harbor. The harbor entrance includes a small channel, bordered by basalt rocks, that runs under the Depoe Bay Highway 101 Bridge, leading into the sheltered areas of the harbor. Due to the short distance from the harbor piers out to the ocean, Depoe Bay is a popular location for charter boat operators offering deep sea fishing and whale watching excursions. The harbor area is home to the Coast Guard’s Station Depoe Bay which encompasses the station facilities and a boat house for its motor lifeboats. The harbor area contains a variety of noteworthy amenities including year-round boat moorage piers, several public parking lots, public access points to some of the piers, a wastewater pump-out station, a hoist for transferring loads to the boat docks, access to fuel resources and electrical power utilities to the individual births. The south end of the harbor includes a public boat launch ramp with parking for trailers plus a public use building configured with fish cleaning stations and public restrooms. Also, this area is the site for both a Veteran’s Memorial and the Depoe Bay City Park. The Depoe Bay City Park features a recreation area with sand and playground equipment, a basketball court and a roller skating ramp. For picnicking, the park has available a covered gazebo, picnic tables and barbecues, and several lawn areas. The Indian Style Salmon Bake Event is held annually in the city park.
