City of Depoe Bay - Downtown and East on Collins Neighborhoods
The hub of life in Depoe Bay is its main downtown section. The area serves as the city’s main shopping district and attracts daily visitors looking to enjoy the coastal amenities of dining on local seafood, taking part in a whale watching or a deep sea fishing charter boat excursion, snacking on salt water taffy or strolling along the coastal gift shops and art galleries. Highway 101 runs directly through Downtown and features visitor parking along the roadway. The downtown area is famous for the seawall that runs along the basalt cliffs offering spectators incredible vantage points of the oncoming waves, the water action surrounding the Spouting Horn Blowhole, and a casual place to observe the boating activity within the bay. Also, the seawall area is a wonderful place to view sunsets. The seawall includes several memorials honoring local fishermen and heroes who have lost their lives at sea and serves as the main vantage point for observing the Fleet of Flowers Memorial Ceremony held on the Memorial Day Weekend. While retail businesses stand out over the downtown area, many residential options are available including living units above the lower level shops. The majority of the residential development is located on the east side of Highway 101, within the small streets and hillsides that border the downtown area. Collins Street is one of the main streets that leads to the residential areas located on the east side of Depoe Bay. These residential neighborhoods are situated behind the main downtown area and are generally referred to as the East on Collins Neighborhood. The East on Collins Neighborhood includes a variety of city streets with individual lots that feature different ocean views, plus other interior lots offering views of the treed hillsides. The East on Collins Neighborhood is appealing for its close proximity to both the downtown center and the harbor area, as well as providing more options for affordable housing in Depoe Bay. These options include individual homes as well as property rental alternatives available through multi-unit rental housing complexes and apartment buildings.
