Otter Crest Area - Rocky Creek (Ben Jones) Bridge - Miroco

Set along the Otter Crest Loop Road, the Rocky Creek (Ben Jones) Bridge bears its name after Ben Jones, considered to be the “Father of the Coast Highway” within Oregon. Ben Jones was responsible for introducing legislation in 1919 for the construction of the Roosevelt Military Highway, the name given to the original Oregon Coast Highway. Further, Ben Jones was responsible for the formation of Lincoln County and was a prominent pioneer in the county’s development. The bridge spans over a small gorge directly above Rocky Creek and has been renovated recently securing the roadway access along the Otter Crest Loop Road. On the south side of the bridge is a turn-out area featuring interpretive information about the history of the bridge, Rocky Creek and Ben Jones himself plus providing an inspirational spot for viewing the natural beauty of the area. The road continues south onto an intersection providing either a right turn entry into the Community of Miroco, or continuing on south past the east side of Miroco and towards the crest of Cape Foulweather. The Miroco Area features individual home sites offering wonderful vistas of the wave action crashing against the rocks below plus superb southern views of Gull Rock, an offshore rock island located in the ocean waters off the Town of Otter Rock. Miroco consists of one roadway system running north to south, finishing in a loop at the southern end of the neighborhood, where the community development ceases.
