North Aerial Guide Overview - Tour Four
Otter Crest Area - Rocky Creek (Ben Jones) Bridge - Miroco |

| Similar in nature to the rocky shorelines of Depoe Bay, the Otter Crest Area of Lincoln County features several basalt headlands that fan out into the Pacific Ocean. The north end of the Otter Crest Area includes the Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint and the oceanfront community of Miroco. The Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint consists of beautiful State Park grounds designed for outdoor activities as well as featuring incredible ocean vistas of the surrounding seascapes. The views looking south from the park are exceptional and capture the waves crashing against the jagged rocks situated along the coastline of Miroco. The Pacific Coast Scenic Byway traverses past the Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint and Rocky Creek itself, and then heads south up the sloping treed hillsides of the Otter Crest Area and Cape Foulweather. Highway 101 continues up and over the crest of Cape Foulweather and winds its way down to the base of the cape, near the town of Otter Rock, and then proceeds south towards the City of Newport. Just south of the Rocky Creek State Park Area, an exit turn-out is available that connects to the Otter Crest Loop Road. The Otter Crest Loop Road is part of the old Oregon Coast Highway System and is now set-up as a scenic roadway heading south towards the crest of Cape Foulweather and the town of Otter Rock. The Otter Crest Loop Road is located below Highway 101 and runs south along the western cliffs of the Otter Crest Area and onto the top of Cape Foulweather. Just south from the initial turn-off onto the Otter Crest Loop Road is the scenic area of Rocky Creek and the historical Rocky Creek (Ben Jones) Bridge. This landmark bridge was designed by Conde B. McCullough, Oregons master bridge builder of the 1920s and 1930s, and has been recently renovated. The bridge and the surrounding coastline have become a favorite spot for photographers capturing the scenic beauty of this location plus the bridge serves as the right of entry into Miroco. |
