Whale Cove - Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint

Located just south of the Development of Little Whale Cove, the small city neighborhood of Whale Cove further showcases the amazing splendor of the City of Depoe Bay’s coastline. The scenic highlights of Whale Cove include the cove itself, a sheltered sandy beach area at the north end of the cove and the cliff-rimmed rocks forming the cove. The almost circular shape of Whale Cove invites the waters of the Pacific Ocean to swirl around its cliff banks, thereby creating a natural cove setting unmatched in beauty on the Central Oregon Coast. The residential development is limited in scope and contains a few city streets set amongst the majestic evergreen trees that line the eastern side of the cove. The rocky perches found within Whale Cove attract many harbor seals that haul-out to rest during favorable weather and tidal conditions. And on very rare occasions, Killer Whales (Orcas) have been seen hunting for seals around the waters of Whale Cove. Highway 101 works it way south through the City of Depoe Bay and the Whale Cove Area, and arrives at the Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint. The Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint features outstanding panoramic views of the surrounding coastline including ocean vistas of both Whale Cove to the north and the community of Miroco to the south. The park design offers several lawn areas with picnic tables, a public restroom building, paved parking, and direct access to Highway 101. Also, this State Park provides a nice location for viewing sunsets.
