City of Depoe Bay - Southpoint Neighborhoods

One of Depoe Bay’s most picturesque communities, the Southpoint Neighborhood features some of the finest coastline views available on the Oregon Coast. Generally, the Southpoint Neighborhood is identified as the residential areas located directly to the south of the Depoe Bay Highway 101 Bridge and on the west side of Highway 101. The Southpoint Area encompasses the western facing shorelines south of the bridge plus the cliff line area along the southern edge of Depoe Bay. Additionally, the neighborhood area consists of the rocky shorelines set along an ancient lava flow on the western portion of the Southpoint Area, highlighted by the rugged point itself. The community views include the waters of Depoe Bay, the city lights of downtown, and the Northpoint Area. Many of the home sites feature ocean views looking west out over the Pacific Ocean where gray whale spouts can be seen from afar. Occasionally, the whales will enter the waters within Depoe Bay offering a seldom seen vantage point right from the edges of the shoreline. The Southpoint Area is comprised of a combination of multi-colored sandstone and basalt lava rock formations weathered by nature and the constant motion of the ocean. Several seabird species nest on the cliff-top vegetation or along the sandstone cliffs including Seagulls, Black Oystercatchers and Pigeon Guillemots. With the advent of the nesting season, Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons can be seen hunting in the area as well.
